Riotur is a public and private joint stock company, is the executive organ of the Special Secretariat for Tourism, whose objective is to implement the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro’s tourist policy, formulated by the Secretary in line with directives and programs defined by the Municipal Administration.

Undoubtedly RIOTUR’s principal objective is to bring to Rio a flow of both domestic and international tourists, firing up the productive chain of tourism, generating foreign exchange, bringing new money in, increasing the demand for jobs and the revenue from taxes, strengthening the City’s economy.

To achieve this objective, RIOTUR follows a plan of action, which includes various marketing activities which aim to promote, institutionally, the sale of Rio as a Tourist Destination, in Brazil and abroad.

It is also RIOTUR’s job to develop, implement and maintain a tourism strategic plan, coordinating the planning and execution of studies, research and programs of interest to the development of tourism in the city as well as to produce and/or support larger events in the City, particularly highlighting the New Year's Eve and Carnival.
Working together with the corporate business world, RIOTUR becomes a partner in projects and activities developed by private enterprise in Rio’s tourism, with the objective always of developing, stimulating and strengthening the Sector.

Riotur also has a tourist information hotline called "Alô Rio (it means, hello Rio or Hi Rio). The receptionist speak a very good english and they are very vey helpful. All of the Riotur offices Distributes maps and excellent Rio Guide updated and another one, listing the major events of the season.

The Riotur in downtown at Rua da Assembleia, 10. is the best office for obtaining informations. The staff speaks an excellent english and they are alson on hand. They wil call around for you to find a hotel if you show up without a reservation. There is a second branch in Copacabana at Avenida Princesa Isabel, 183.

Riotur also has the following information booths with brochures and maps at:

  • Galeao international airport.
  • Maracana Football Stadium.
  • Rodoviaria Novo Rio - Avenida Francisco Bicalho, Sao Cristovao.
