Rio de Janeiro for Children

Brazilians are very family oriented. Many hotels let children stay free, although the age limit varies. Babysitters are readly available and most restaurants have high chairs.

Good sights for kids are the shows at the Planetario and the Zoo Garden.

In addition, children may also enjoy:

Fazenda Alegria - It's a small children's farm on the Estrada da Boca do Mato. Location: Vargem Pequena.

Mini-Rio - Small amusement area with bumper cars, boat and plane rides for tiny tots. Location: Barra Shopping.

Museu Aeroespacial - Expositions on Santos Dumont (the Brazilian father of aviation), AIR Marshal Eduardo Gomes, the History of Brazilian airmail and the role of Brazil's Air Force in World War II. Lots of old planes, including replicas of the 14 Bis and Demoiselle. Location: Campos dos Afonsos.

Rio Water Planet - Is the biggest aquatic park in South America, also incorporates Rio Kart Planet (an open air kart track), Rio show Planet (an area for shows) and the Rio Circus Planet. Location: Recreio dos Bandeirantes.

Terra Encantada (Enchanted Land) - Includes Cabhum, a 64m, 100km/h free fall and a toboggan ride that goes over a waterfall, as well as many other rides. Very good choice for family attraction moment!

Wet' n' Wild Rio Unit - Its water slides are a bit more radical than Rio water Planet.
